Review: Kissing Her Crush by Ophelia London (Sugar City #2)

Natalie Holden is working hard to prove that chocolates can affect teenage depression in a positive way, and working in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the chocoholic capital of the United States is definitely an advantage. Unfortunately, there's a holistic microbiologist who's been sent over to try and debunk her theories and research and he comes in the still as hot as ever package of her teenage crush, Luke Elliott. They disagree on chocolates and any benefits it may have, but there's a definite pull that they feel toward each other, one that could only complicated matters between them professionally, but it could definitely make things way better for them personally. Will they be able to meet somewhere in the middle or will the differences be too much for them to overcome, leaving them with no choice but to go their separate ways?
Kissing Her Crush is the second book in the Sugar City contemporary romance series from Ophelia London. This one is nearly double the length of its predecessor and is about Natalie Holden, who was mentioned several times in book one, and Luke Elliott. Both noticed each other while they were teenagers, but nothing ever came about those innocent crushes until they cross paths again years later. Being divorced has somewhat jaded Luke and all he wants is to focus on his current assignment in order to get the job that he wants. This pits him against Natalie and the two definitely don't see eye to eye when it comes to Natalie's current study on the effects of a particular chocolate recipe she's perfecting on teen depression. They're on opposite sides of this one issue but there's no denying their very mutual attraction.
I enjoyed this second book in the series and while there were moments that Luke's arguments against Natalie's research made me feel frustrated with him--hey, I'm a self-confessed chocoholic, so I was siding with Natalie all the way-- and then there was the whole calling Natalie "Nicole" the first time they see each other in six years (bad Luke!), I did like the sweet moments these two shared. Thankfully, there was more to Luke than his current job, and it was that musician side of him that showed that he was sensitive and romantic. It's rather difficult to resist a good looking guy strumming a guitar and singing songs that are dedicated to you, right, bookaholics? Kissing Her Crush was a lighthearted romance that had a definite interesting take on teen depression, one that may tempt you to do your own research. This gets four stars. ♥
