Review: Dying for Keeps by Seleste deLaney (Agents of TRAIT #4)
Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
Greta Gallagher and Nico Tancredi have been partners for about six months and they work well together, even as they try to pretend they're not attracted to each other, a fact that neither of them realizes is quite mutual. When Greta tries to find a connection where the higher-ups of the Tactical Response and Investigative Team (TRAIT) don't think one exists, she relies on Nico to help her make sense of the chaos. Soon, their research leads them to the mysterious waters of the fabled Bermuda Triangle, and what they discover there will leave them wishing it would simply disappear before it wreaks havoc on TRAIT and beyond the walls of their no-longer secret organization. The cost of a mistake would be more than deadly.
As soon as I finished reading Dying for Keeps, the fourth and what I presume is the final novel in author Seleste deLaney's Agents of TRAIT romantic suspense series, the first thought in my head was "And THAT is how you end with a bang!" Not once while reading the series that I ever catch on how everything tied together and how darn complex the conspiracy theory involved was going to be. I'm usually on-point when it comes to stuff like that and either I was utterly clueless or Seleste deLaney simply did a spectacular job distracting me with specifics and details that I never saw the bigger picture. With that being said, I'm going to highly recommend that you read the books in order because yes, they are all connected to one another.
To be honest, Greta Gallagher would never have been the first agent that would pop in my head if you asked me who I thought in TRAIT would save the United States (and possibly the rest of the world). She's been a recurring character from the very beginning and while her gift makes her a unique asset, she's always been somewhat in the periphery. Nico Tancredi became her partner in the third book and his ability to manipulate people is one that doesn't work on Greta, which I think would have helped him with asking her out early on. Their partnership is well-balanced, with Greta being the more serious and logical one between the two and Nico being the one who's able to make her take a step back whenever necessary.
There are twists and turns in this book that I didn't expect and I will always give credit to the author when they're able to do that. This series ender took everything to a higher level and kept me on my toes from start to finish. With each new book that has come along in the Agents of TRAIT series, the story just seemed to keep getting better, and now, it ends on a spectacularly creative and original note. Of course, I could be wrong and there may be another book waiting in the wings, but Dying for Keeps wrapped everything up, leaving nothing hanging, and I have no complaints with how the series is ending, if that is indeed the case. The series gets an overall rating of four stars but Dying for Keeps does receive five stars. ♥
