Review: Rebound Remedy by Christine d'Abo (Love for the Holidays #1)

A proposal at an airport is a romantic thing...unless it's your boyfriend receiving the proposal from his ex-boyfriend. The fact that he said yes pretty much makes it clear that your relationship is officially over and done with. This was so not how Cole was planning to spend the holidays, so drowning his sorrows at his favorite bar is the perfect way to cap his nightmarish day. But when the bartender his been crushing on offers to help make things better for him by giving him his own version of the Twelve Days of Christmas, Cole is not only tempted but he agrees to Owen's suggestion. Everything was meant to be temporary, because the last thing Cole needs is to be on the other end of a rebound romance, but being with Owen makes him want much more. Is it actually possible for a rebound to turn out to be the real thing after all?
Rebound Remedy is a holiday M/M romance from author Christine d'Abo and has Cole, fresh from an unexpected break-up, and Owen, hoping to help Cole get over said break-up. Cole and Owen know each other in the same way a bar owner slash bartender knows his regular customers. Cole has noticed Owen before but he was never really sure about Owen's sexuality--Owen is bisexual--and with them spending a lot of time together, the chemistry between them is pretty palpable. Owen is able to bring out a different side of Cole's, but they do agree that nothing more than friendship and casual sex can happen. Of course, things develop rather quickly, leading Cole to feel wary because he's already been on one end of a rebound romance and isn't too thrilled over the idea that he could be entering another one but on the opposite end.
I liked the story, especially since there seemed to be an honest-to-goodness friendship that was also blossoming between Cole and Owen alongside the romance. There are sweet moments that the two of them share, but there are also those steamy moments that allow them to be more adventurous with each other. Owen has family issues that he's dealing with and doesn't readily share them with Cole, which is both understandable--because they aren't in an actual relationship and they're only beginning to establish a friendship--and frustrating--because keeping stuff from someone you're romantically interested in never works out in the end. I did feel that there were times that Cole was too quick to make excuses for Owen's behavior, but overall, Rebound Remedy was a good four-starred read to warm up your holidays. ♥
