Review: For His Pleasure by Suzanne Rock (Playboys of Boston #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by St. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review.

The last thing that Arianna Perconti wants to do is to walk down the aisle and marry someone she doesn't love. In her desperation, she runs off and tries to find solace in with Jason Stone, the one man her family would probably never want her to be seen with. Jason is a business rival and once had an affair with her brother's girlfriend, but Ari is more than aware that what she and Jason share is nothing more than a casual thing, something that was never meant to turn into a committed relationship. But she's beginning to fall for him and becoming even more involved with Jason could cause more problems for the state of her heart. Then an unexpected complication comes in the form of Jason's estranged sibling and his return may prove to be the very catalyst that will change Jason and Ari's lives and those of both their families forever.

For His Pleasure is the second novel in the Playboys of Boston series from author Suzanne Rock and it takes place right after the events in the first novel, At His Service, though it does begin with how Arianna Perconti and Jason Stone first meet. This is the kind of book that holds great promise because of a very enticing synopsis, but then that's what blurbs are supposed to do, right? Hook the reader with the promise of a great story and characters you can fall in love with. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to feel much of anything for either Ari or Jason. She was very immature for someone her age and seemed to have a preference for handling situations without a great deal of thought for how her actions would affect everyone else. My opinion of Jason was already low in book one and didn't improve too much in book two.

There's a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of sex to that goes on between Ari and Jason, and I understand that their relationship is founded on their mutual love of having sex with one another, but I wanted a bit more substance in the story line. Jason is supposed to be a savvy businessman and hotelier, yet he took the word of his estranged brother hook, line, and sinker without taking into consideration everything that happened prior. I also wondered about Ari's choice to be with someone like Jason--every bit the alpha male that her oldest brother is--while decrying how her brother is domineering--which is exactly what Jason is. This also ends on a cliffhanger, which I have aversion towards, so my frustration was at a high. My curiosity will probably lead to me reading the next in the series. For His Pleasure ended as a fairly okay three-star read. ♥
