Review: Should've Said No by Tracy March (Thistle Bend #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Lindsey Simms has left her life in Washington D.C. behind to start over anew in the small town of Thistle Bend, Colorado. She's looking forward to putting her skills as a museum curator to good use by setting up the new museum for the town. She soon finds herself, however, in the middle of a feud between two of the oldest families in Thistle Bend--the Karlssons and the Crenshaws. She's feeling pressure from both ends to settle a dispute that's been going on for generations. What most of the townspeople don't know is that she's related to the former, though not by blood. Then there's the undeniable but ill-timed attraction between her and Carden Crenshaw, who is one handy man to have around. But with both Lindsey and Carden keeping secrets from each other, the feud between the two families may have no real end in sight.

Should've Said No is the first book in the new contemporary romance series from author Tracy March entitled Thistle Bend and is set in the small town by the same name in the state of Colorado. Lindsey Simms accepts the job to become the new curator of the town's new museum, but she's caught in the midst of an ongoing feud between two families, one of which Carden Crenshaw happens to belong to and the other has Lindsey's relatives. There's a Romeo and Juliet feel to this but only to a certain degree since no one, other than her great aunt and great uncle, are aware of her connection to one of the feuding families. I liked the chemistry between Lindsey and Carden and, as is the case with small town romances, these two are surrounded by quite a few quirky characters that meddle and poke their noses in everyone's business.

I enjoyed most of the story but didn't really like how it jumped several months a couple of times as the story got closer to its end. It felt as if I was missing something essential in terms of how Lindsey and Carden would mend their broken relationship. It's as if you're left hanging at the end of one chapter and then bam! You're swept forward several months and you wonder what the heck happened in between. Nothing? Something? What?! I really would have preferred a more steady progression. One thing I did like is how small gestures counted as much as you would think grand gestures do, something that was apt for a small town like Thistle Bend. Overall, Should've Said No was a good read and has me interested in seeing what else the Thistle Bend series has to offer in the future. I'm giving this series starter four stars. ♥
