Review: Dare to Seduce by Carly Phillips (Dare to Love #8)

Max Savage has loved only one girl--Lucy Dare--but he's never pursued her out of respect for his close friendship with Lucy's older brothers, Gabe and Decklan. When they finally give him the green light, Max goes after Lucy the only way he knows how--head-on and in full force. But Lucy long buried whatever feelings she had for Max when he married another woman a few years ago. Knowing that the only man she ever loved was pledging himself to someone else broke her and led to her moving from New York to Los Angeles in order to get as much distance from Max as possible. She's no longer the girl she once was, but Max is ready to prove to Lucy that while she may have changed, her heart has always belonged to only him.

Dare to Seduce is the eighth book in the Dare to Love from bestselling author Carly Phillips and the third one featuring the one of the Dare cousins in New York. Lucy Dare and Max Savage have had feelings for one another for years but with Max keeping his distance from Lucy because he didn't want to mess up his friendship with her brothers, nothing happens between them. They go on to be with other people, but their hearts never seem to be totally in any of the relationships they have. This uses the falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling trope pretty well, although the rejection that Lucy receives from Max is one that adds on to the emotional scars that are already within her. Max has to work hard to get Lucy to trust their love.

This latest installment in this popular series falls in line with its predecessors in that there's a good amount of heat as well as heart. The story itself is fairly lighthearted, but there are definite moments of drama and angst courtesy of Lucy believing that what she and Max have is temporary. With this being what I'm guessing is the last book for the Dare cousins in New York, since all three now have their stories told, it was a nice touch to have the first two couples play pivotal roles in Lucy and Dare's romance. The transition between the last two chapters and the epilogue did feel a tiny bit abrupt, but overall, this was an enjoyable read and one that does keep the Dare to Love series interesting. Four stars for Dare to Seduce.
