Review: Why Him? by Rie Warren (Mistaken Identities #1)

Ooh! This book was waaay more than I thought it would be, and that's saying something because after having already read a few of Rie Warren's novels, I have certain lofty expectations. The first in her Mistaken Identities series, Why Him? is a May-December romance between thirty-eight-year-old divorce lawyer Cady Dalton and twenty-six-year-old former professional football star Jude Raleigh. One fated meeting in a hotel bar led to the two sharing the most intense Thursday night--heck, any night of the week--either had ever experienced. They agreed to meet in the same hotel room every week but there were rules in place: no last names, no personal information, no numbers exchanged. As far as they were concerned, she was Catherine and he was Jude, and they were hot together. So, imagine their mutual shock when single mother Cady opens her front door to find Jude standing right there--the very same Jude who turns out the be the recommended sitter to her three sons, Aiden, Luke, and Dane. When the boys get along well with him, new rules need to be into place, but you know what they say about rules...

This novel was sweet and sexy and oh-so-sizzling hot, but it also had a whole lot of lightheartedness to it with a dash of angst thrown in. I loved the chemistry that Jude and Cady had and how the twelve-year age gap was mentioned but not made into a bigger deal than it had to be. These two were constantly aware of one another's presence, but it was also clear that their top priority were the three boys, each of whom were potential scene-stealers. Can I also say that I was glad that there wasn't a whole lot of unnecessary drama when it came to Cady and her ex-husband, who she had constant contact with not just because of their children but also because they were both divorce lawyers? With drama at a minimum but just smidgen of angst to keep things interesting, I found myself totally invested in this really well-written love story between two people who don't seem to have a lot in common but share the kind of connection that other couple work too hard at. It was also nice to see one particular couple from a favorite Warren romance. I'm giving Why Him? five stars and cannot wait to read the second book! ♥
