Review: Flare by Posy Roberts (North Star #3)

Posy Roberts closes out her North Star trilogy with Flare, and it's a conclusion worthy of what's been both a heartrending and heartwarming series. After enduring such a massive loss, Hugo Thurson and Kevin Magus are trying their damnedest to keep their family together. As much as these two men love one another and relish in their second opportunity to not only rediscover but to keep their love for each other, challenges abound. Brooke and Finn are coping, but then Erin's parents do the unthinkable--they file for custody of the two kids, and Hugo and Kevin realize how formidable an opponent Kevin's former in-laws are. Even with his professional career on an upswing, Hugo misses the family that he and Kevin have whenever he's away, but will choosing to be where they are prove to be the right thing or will his being around be too close for comfort and lead to more trouble for them?

If any couple deserves a happily-ever-after, it would have to be Hugo and Kevin. Boy, have these two gone through the wringer--and not just once at that! This is the second time I've read their story, and still, I find myself becoming invested even though I know how everything is going to turn out. That's a testament to both Posy Roberts's writing and the story and characters that she shares with her readers through this trilogy. Between the two of them, Kevin still remains the one that required a wee bit more exposure to in order for me to feel comfortable with him. It was easy to love Hugo, but Kevin? Well, he had to earn my love, and earn it he did. From the great cast of characters to a satisfying ending to a tumultuous yet inspiring love story, there is virtually nothing for me to truly complain about. I do recommend that you read the books in order and save an entire weekend for them. Four stars for Flare. ♥
