Review: Coincidental Cowgirl by Jillian Neal (Camden Ranch #0.5)

When newlyweds Brock and Hope Camden left behind the surf and sand of Hope's hometown of Gypsy Beach, North Carolina to move to the mountains and fields of Brock's hometown of Pleasant Glen, Nebraska, their hopes for the future were bright. With the unforgiving winter season and Brock's time mostly spent making sure that everything is running smoothly on his part of the Camden Ranch, Hope feels as if those hopes have become as bleak as the weather. There's no denying just how much Hope loves Brock, but she's struggling to find her place and can't seem to call their cottage or the town "home". With a busy husband and busybody townsfolk, Hope can't help but feel lost. Brock realizes that he has to find time to talk and to reassess his choices if there's any hope of Camden Ranch becoming their forever home.

Coincidental Cowgirl is the introductory book to bestselling author Jillian Neal's newest series, Camden Ranch. For readers familiar with her popular Gypsy Beach series, Brock and Hope Camden's love story was relayed in the fourth book, Gypsy Hope, and that one ended with them making the decision to permanently move from Gypsy Beach to Pleasant Glen. I loved Gypsy Hope and my expectations for Coincidental Cowgirl were high, and goodness, but did Jillian Neal met those expectations of mine! As a reader, there are times where I wonder what happens after the happily-ever-after, and my curiosity is satisfied with look at Brock and Hope's life on the ranch. Here, we see that marriage is a constant work in progress and that even couples who go with the best of intentions often stumble and face disappointment.

This story has fans of Gypsy Hope witnessing the struggles that our newlyweds are forced to deal with, though some should have been resolved sooner rather than later. The thing with any relationship is that the longer things go unsaid and problems ignored--not necessarily out of conscious choice but out of other obligations that took precedence--the worse everything tends to turn out. There was so much hope when Brock and Hope's story ended in Gypsy Hope and being able to see how they were currently faring is a dose of reality that I think makes this a book many can relate to. Of course, as is with anything in life, their story emphasizes that with love burning strong and bright, there's nothing that can't be fixed or handled and that being upfront and honest in communication is the first step. Coincidental Cowgirl gets five stars. ♥
