Review: Catch Me If You Can by L.B. Gregg (Romano & Albright #1)

Gallery assistant Caesar Romano needs the latest gallery showing to be a success if he hopes to attract the attention of another gallery owner and work for her instead of keep staying where he's at. With an artist that's got a penchant for making a public spectacle of himself and the sudden appearance of a closeted ex-boyfriend are just two headaches that Caesar could do without. Then an unexpected guest in the person of Detective Dan Green proves to be a pleasant, albeit passing, distraction for the evening and it seems the man is more than a little interested in Caesar. But the light of a new day brings with it a missing art piece and that's only the tip of a plot to extort not just one but several individuals connected to him. And out of nowhere, Dan returns, and his involvement in the case is just one of the secrets he's keeping from Caesar.

Catch Me If You Can is the first book in the Romano & Albright M/M romantic suspense series from author L.B. Gregg and was such a pleasant surprise of a read. Caesar Romano and Dan Green Albright's first meeting is both fateful and purposeful, but you'll have to read the book to find out why I've described it that way. There are times that the banter between Caesar and Dan borders on irreverence, but the attraction is quite obvious, making it easy for Dan to maneuver, though he'd probably initially disclaim any sort of maneuvering was involved, Caesar into compromising situations. These two actually work rather well together as they try and find out who's behind the thefts and repeated blackmail threats, especially since it looks like Caesar has a weird penchant for spotting the persons of interest and suspects.

There are three things about this book that stood out for me: 1. The chemistry between main characters Caesar and Dan, 2. The fast-paced story that you would have thought lasted longer than it actually did, and 3. The witty manner in which everything's been presented. Caesar and Dan have the potential to end up on my list of all-time favorite M/M couples because they just make sense together, even with the twelve-year age difference (Caesar is twenty-eight to Dan's forty) and their seemingly very different career paths (Caesar's an assistant in an art gallery while Dan's a former police officer turned private detective). Then you've got the supporting characters who have a penchant for scene stealing, especially, cousins Shep and Poppy McNamara and the entire Romano clan. Catch Me If You Can was a great 4.5-starred series starter. ♥
