Review: Sweet Ride by Cathryn Fox (Playing for Keeps #3)

Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Curtis Jagger has never forgotten the beautiful girl who treated him with kindness when they were in high school and when he and his two best friends decided to invite "the one that got away," Jag had only one person in mind: Alixis Harris. While he may have come from the wrong side of the tracks growing up and Alix's parents saw him as someone they didn't think their daughter should even consider starting a friendship with, Jag has made a name for himself as a private investigator. He knows Alix has always chosen to abide by her parents' wishes and demands, but he hopes to convince her to spend the week with him so that she can do whatever her heart--and her body--desires. She may have just left her cheating fiancé but Jag is more than ready to take a chance that he and Alix would be quite perfect for one another.

Sweet Ride is the third and final novella in the Cathryn Fox-penned contemporary romance series entitled Playing for Keeps. Curtis Jagger and Alixis Harris knew one another in high school and always thought kindly of each other, even though they didn't exactly belong to the same social circles. He was the boy with an drunk and abusive man for a father while she was the respectable daughter from a political family. Alix has just ended her engagement to the man her mother handpicked for her and while she's initially hesitant about being on a ranch with Jag, he provides her with an enticing offer--to do whatever she pleases--in the one week she's there and it's an offer that she can't refuse. Being with Jag allows Alix to completely be herself and together they explore all the tempting and irresistible ways to satisfy each other's every need.

As was the case with the two previous novellas in the series, feelings develop rather quickly between the main characters and there's a heck of a lot of hot scenes that they're involved in. This is a short read but I liked that I got a pretty complete story and that this one was able to distinguish itself from those that came before it, even though all three share the story arc of three best friends who invite the one woman they feel got away and with whom they'd love to have that first chance with. This was really Jag and Alix's love story, but it was nice to see Coop and Mari from Slow Ride and Mac and Jess from Wild Ride here as well, even if it was just a teeny, tiny bit of them. Overall, I enjoyed the Playing for Keeps series, which gets an average rating of 4.35 stars, and I feel that it ended on a high note with Sweet Ride, which gets 4.5 stars. ♥
