Review: Her Fantasy Husband by Nina Croft (Things to Do Before You Die #2)

Her Fantasy Husband is the second novel in the Nina Croft-penned Things to Do Before You Die series and the second in the trio that survived a sinking ship and promised to do the one thing most important to them after they return to dry land. Twenty-eight-year-old Joshua Slater has been married to his twenty-three-year-old wife Alexia for nearly five years, but they've never shared a home or a bed, having only met on the day of their sudden marriage and then parting ways right after. He was paid well for agreeing to be her husband, but now he wants out, vowing to finally have sex after five years of going without, and he refuses to do while he's still married, regardless of the fact that said marriage was never even consummated nor was it borne out of love. He's more than willing to pay Lexi back the full amount he was given plus interest--all thanks to his successful security business--but she implores him to wait just another six months and when Josh meets her conniving family, he decides he's willing to help her out. Then they share one unforgettable moment together, and Josh wonders if the six months left will be more than enough to sate the lust and whatever unrecognizable feeling he has toward his dear wife, Lexi Slater.
I quite liked Josh and Lexi's story. It had that damsel in distress feel to it, only Lexi was an independent woman who used the money she had as an heiress to help animals and others in need. She does, however, let her evil grandmother take advantage of her kindness and her non-confrontational ways. The very same grandmother already suspects that Josh and Lexi's marriage is a sham, and with her hefty inheritance at stake, Lexi intends to stay married to Josh until she turns twenty-four, the age in which her grandmother can no longer try and get her greedy hands on Lexi's inheritance. Josh, in his uniquely knight-in-tarnished-armor way, steps in whenever he sees that Lexi's being taken advantage of or belittled. They may not have been the kind of couple you would look and think that they made sense being together, but Lexi had this ability to touch upon the more human side of Josh while Josh not only made Lexi feel beautiful but made her realize that she really is, on the inside and out. Now, it may have taken Josh forever to own up to his feelings for his wife but I do love the manner in which he wanted to let her know he wanted to be with her. It was so cute and endearing! Her Fantasy Husband is my favorite in the series so far and it gets 4.5 stars. ♥
