Review: Licked by Brooke Blaine (L.A. Liaisons #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by RockStar Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

Who hasn't fantasized about finally snagging the attention of that guy you were pining over in high school? When artisan ice creamery and bar owner Ryleigh Phillips attends her tenth high school reunion and is not only noticed but spends time with her teenage crush, Cameron Mathis, it feels too good to be true. Cameron is the perfect guy and Ryleigh is thrilled that he wants to date her. Everything is right in her world...and then she meets Hunter Morgan and he knocks her world right off its axis. He's Cameron's best friend and there's no denying that he's just as hot but has more of an edge to him. Now that Cameron has his eye on her, her thoughts should only center on him...but they don't and whether she wants to admit it or not, Hunter is on her mind more often than the man should be. Ryleigh's love life just got complicated.

Licked is the first book in the L.A. Liaisons rom-com series from author Brooke Blaine and it doesn't scrimp on the laughs or on the like going on between Ryleigh Phillips and Cameron Mathis or on the love between Ryleigh and Hunter Morgan. Ryleigh is the kind of heroine that is difficult to resist, tripping over the humps and bumps she finds along the way of her professional and personal life, and never failing to have the support of her closest friends. She's sassy but sweet and she owns her success, never shying away from claiming it and shrugging it off as if it were nothing. She's totally uncensored when she's around her friends and it seems that Hunter is able to get the same results when she's around him. And how can you say no to a woman who comes up with delicious concoctions that happen to have outlandishly fab names.

The struggle that Ryleigh faces in choosing between two guys was made more difficult by the fact that both Hunter and Cameron were good looking guys who truly cared about her. I'm not going to go further into the whole love triangle, but I will say that I hope the guy who doesn't get the girl gets his own happily-ever-after later on in the series, because seriously, he deserves it. Aside from these three memorable characters, Ryleigh's friends are equally as unforgettable and we're given enough of a look-see at each one of them to pique our curiosity, so that if and when we encounter them again in the series, the interest is already there. This is my very first Brooke Blaine read and I absolutely had a blast reading this witty and somewhat wacky contemporary romance and am happily recommending it to all. Licked receives five stars. ♥
