Review: Knit Tight by Annabeth Albert (Portland Heat #4)

Note: This ARC was provided by Kensington Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Knit Tight is the fourth novella in author Annabeth Albert's ongoing Portland Heat M/M contemporary romance series. Over the past year, Brady's life has been about two things: his siblings and People's Cup. At twenty-three, he's guardian to his three younger siblings and has only his eighteen-year-old sister to help him take care of them when he's at work at People's Cup as a barista. He's been working on his skills, putting on flare and making sure his latte art are exceptional so that he can win the top prize at a contest that could bring in much needed money that will allow him and his siblings to move to a bigger place. The last thing he needs is a distraction but that's exactly what walks through the café's doors on the busiest night of the week. Evren is the nephew to Brady's favorite customer who is undergoing treatments for cancer. Evren moves from New York to Portland to take care of the aunt who took him in when his parents turned him away for being gay. But with so much going on for both men and Evren having issues with Brady's bisexuality, is there any hope for them to ever be anything more than friends?

This new installment in the author's series set in Portland, Oregon felt different from the first three. Maybe because it was one that nearly brought me to tears with the story of an older brother who put his siblings first without asking for anything in return or the story of a nephew who set his old life aside to take care of the woman who treated him more like a son than his actual parents. It would be easy to see their meeting as one that came at the wrong time because they both had so much going on, but actually, Brady and Evren did meet at the right time--when they needed someone to lean on the most, even as they resisted to actually ask others for help or even for a bit of understanding. Evren was such a unique character with his quirks regarding sex, but I loved how Brady was so accepting of it because he accepted Ev wholeheartedly. This was such a touching story about love for family but it was also the story of a community, one that was there all the time to provide support. Knit Tight is my favorite novella in the Portland Heat series so far and I can't wait to read more from Albert's Portlanders. It gets five stars. ♥
