Review: Finding My Girl by Melissa Foster, illustrated by Oliver Harbour (Sugar Lake #3.5)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Finding My Girl is a companion booklet to Love Like Ours, which is the third full-length novel in the Sugar Lake series written by bestselling author Melissa Foster and published by Amazon's Montlake Romance imprint. With gorgeous illustrations by British artist Oliver Harbour, this booklet is not a novella nor is it a short story. It's best perused after having read Love Like Ours in order for you to have a better appreciation for what you'll find on the pages of this companion graphic booklet. You don't have to read the first two full-length novels, but if you're a Melissa Foster fan and reader and love lighthearted romance reads, you may want to check out The Real Thing and Only for You, books one and two, respectively, in the Sugar Lake series, both of which were satisfying reads for me.

This companion booklet was the perfect combination of words and pictures, what with Melissa Foster's use of notes written by Derek Grant to Talia Dalton together with Oliver Harbour's grayscale sketches and drawings. This isn't exactly similar to a graphic novel or even a comic book in that what we have here remind me of vignettes that lovingly encapsulate the evolution of Derek and Talia's love story. You can go through the entire booklet in less than thirty minutes, but again, allow me to reiterate that this is best appreciated after you read Love Like Ours, which is currently priced at less than two dollars, as are the first two books. Finding My Girl easily snags four stars. ♥
