Review: Office Mate by Rachel Van Dyken (The Emory Games #3)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

The Emory Games are back on, and fan favorite Max Emory is ready and raring to go with his newest set of victims, erm, employees to run the gauntlet. Office Mate is the third book in the Emory Games series, and it's a second-chance romance featuring Ace Harvey and Bri (who has no last name mentioned). He's the VP at Emory Hotels, and she's one of the new interns. Oh, and they're exes, with her basically ghosting him and cutting off all communication. A year later, their paths cross again, and there's nothing quite like a forced proximity kind of reunion between the one that ran away and the one who was left behind. And all of it orchestrated by the not-all-that-evil-but-maybe-just-a-wee-bit mastermind slash matchmaker billionaire that is Max Emory. Oh and Dustin's back, which is always a bonus of sorts. Kinda.

This series always brings the laughs, and we have Max to thank for that. He does not disappoint, although I do feel a wee bit bad for poor Dustin. As far as the romance between the main characters is concerned, Ace and Bri still had feelings for each other after a year apart. There's some tension, but they're forced to either set that aside or deal with it quickly because they've got Max's games to get through, and Bri really needs the prize money. While this was a quick read, there were admittedly moments where it felt scattered and I felt lost, like I was missing or mixing up details. The story did come off as a tad rushed, but I'm a sucker for a happy ending, which is why Office Mate snags 3.5 stars.
