Review: Nine Month Contract by Amy Daws (Mountain Men Matchmaker #1)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Back in June of 2022, I dared to hope that Amy Daws would create a spin-off series for Max Fletcher's brothers. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who wished for those books, and I guess having multiple readers put that out into the universe worked because the three remaining single Fletcher men, who all live on Fletcher Mountain, have their own series indeed! Nine Month Contract is book one in the Mountain Men Matchmaker spin-off series and features the second oldest Fletcher brother, thirty-eight-year-old Wyatt--Max (Last on the List, book five in the Wait with Me series) is the oldest, for those who aren't familiar with these siblings. Wyatt is in search of a surrogate, and well, his two younger brothers, Calder and Luke, decide to help him. Actually, it's their niece, Everly, who's the brains of the whole matchmaking operation, and she thinks she's found the perfect woman for her grumpy uncle--twenty-eight-year-old sunshiny rescue shelter employee Trista Matthews. But from the moment Wyatt and Trista meet, nothing quite goes to either of their plans!

Hilarity ensues in this opening salvo to the Mountain Men Matchmaker series! Of course, there's romance, too, and some family meddling and matchmaking as well. Wyatt is the grump to Trista's sunshine, but he's also quite the romantic, albeit maybe not in the overly obvious hearts-and-flowers kind of way. He's also a sucker for his niece, which is how he got roped into agreeing to meet Trista in the first place. Now, the goat dad and the pig mom--Wyatt's got a pet goat named Millie and Trista's got a pet potbellied pig named Reginald  (although I personally loved the name Piggie Smalls!)--don't fall madly in love (or in bed) immediately. Theirs is more slow-burn than insta-love romance, and I was all for it. I laughed a lot and swooned even more, but there's also a hint of angst in the story given certain events in Wyatt's and Trista's respective pasts. For a series starter, Nine Month Contract has set the bar high, and I can't wait to see it met or surpassed. Five stars!
