Review: The Accidental Siren by Lexi Blake writing as Sophie Oak (Texas Sirens: Legacy #1)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
Lexi Blake, writing as Sophie Oak, takes readers back to Willow Fork, Texas with the first novel in her Texas Sirens: Legacy series. Yep, we've got ourselves a spin-off, people! For those out there who have either never read the original Texas Sirens series--or the Nights in Bliss, Colorado books which are part of a companion series--or are new to Blake's writing as Oak or Blake's writing as a whole, worry not! You can definitely jump in and make this new series starter as your introduction to her storytelling. Fair warning: This is a ménage à trois romance. If MFM romances aren't a hard stop for you, get ready for a fun read; if they are, well, check out some of Blake's other work. (A quick note: Blake's books as Oak were my intro to ménage à trois romances, and while I'm still picky when it comes to this trope, hers are an auto-read.
The Accidental Siren is the story of Joshua Barnes-Fleetwood (son of Jackson Barnes, Samuel Fleetwood, and Abigail Barnes (née Moore), from Small Town Siren, book one of the Texas Sirens series), Jared Burch (nicknamed Grim), and Nicole Mason. She's on the run after being framed for the murder of her abusive husband. A change of name and scenery is exactly what she needs, but meeting Josh and Jared calls to a far baser want. She could very well be the perfect woman for Josh and Jared, but she's keeping dangerous secrets. When the past comes calling, all three of them may be risking more than their hearts.
There's suspense, mystery, and romance, and no one does throuples and BDSM quite like this author, and that's whether she's writing as Lexi Blake or as Sophie Oak. Josh, Grim, and Nicole built a relationship based on trust, respect, and love. Of course, all that unbridled lust was there as well, but I liked how the author managed to balance the sex with the romance. And then there's the suspense, and goodness, when everything came to light, I wanted justice for Nicole. Naturally, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Jack, Sam, and Abby, aka the OGs. When it comes to new generation spin-offs, that level of expectation can be a hurdle, but Josh, Grim, and Nicole leaped nicely. 4.5 stars for The Accidental Siren.
