Review: A Taste of Whiskey by Melissa Foster (The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Redemption Ranch #3)

"You've got me, Bo Peep. I've been yours since our very first kiss."

Once you get a taste of Sasha Whiskey and Ezra Moore's story, you're going to want to get drunk on their romance and a happily-ever-after that's a long time coming. Everything plays out in A Taste of Whiskey, the third full-length novel in Melissa Foster's kinda-sorta-maybe-absolutely addictive The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Redemption Ranch series. This is a friends-to-lovers, single parent, forbidden romance set in Hope Valley, Colorado, specifically, Redemption Ranch, a place owned by the Whiskeys that provides rehabilitation for rescued horses and therapy and guidance for troubled individuals. Twenty-eight-year-old Sasha Whiskey, fourth of five siblings, works on the ranch as an equine rehabilitation therapist, and while she's never considered being anywhere other than where she's closest to her close-knit family, being around the only man she's ever wanted has been a test of her sensibilities. Ezra Moore is a wonderful father to five-year-old Gus, a supportive therapist, and an amazing friend, but the thirty-year-old is also the same guy she compares every other one she dates to. Thirteen years after they first met and shared one kiss, Sasha's decided she's done. She's going to go after what she wants, but will what Ezra offers her be enough, and how much are they willing to risk when they know co-workers can't date?

Bo Peep and her big, bad wolf in sheep's clothing, aka Sasha and Ezra, were delightful in the dirtiest of ways. Now, that isn't to say that it was just about lust and sex with these two. Theirs was a love story that had been put on-hold, almost as if the inevitability of them being together was a given and fate was just biding its time. I love that they were both as dedicated to the ranch and their vocations as they were, and there was certainly no questioning how much Ezra loved his son, Gus, and how Sasha adored the sweet boy as much as she did. There was quite a bit on the line when they decided to finally (FINALLY!) cross the line between flirty platonic to passionate romantic, and I appreciated that they didn't go into their developing relationship lightly. I understood why they decided to keep it quiet in the beginning, but a love like theirs isn't the type that could remain in the shadows for long, not when it was so darn obvious they belonged together as a couple and with Gus as a family. And Gus! Goodness, but how I wished I could give him a hug. Suffice it to say he deserved the world, and I'm glad he had Ezra, Sasha, his grandfather, and the Whiskeys. This series is just...everything. Five-plus stars for A Taste of Whiskey.
