Review: Cage of Ice and Shadows by Pam Godwin (Frozen Fate #2)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
After the heartbreaking cliffhanger in Hills of Shivers and Shadows, Pam Godwin continues the harrowing tale of survival and an unlikely love that develops in the harsh environment that its lead characters find themselves in. Cage of Ice and Shadows is the second novel in Godwin's Frozen Fate trilogy, and yes, the books MUST be read in order. If cliffhangers aren't your thing, you may want to wait till all the books are ready for your perusal, which means you'll have to be patient until August. Either way, I'm going to highly recommend that you set aside whatever expectations you may...expect for maybe a couple: Godwin's writing is going to be epic and Frankie's tale will push your boundaries.
There was a bit of wishful thinking on my part with regards to one particular thing that happened in the first book, but regardless of whether all that wishing and hoping came to fruition, Pam Godwin did not disappoint. The middle book in a trilogy tends to be more middling (pun not intended) compared to the ones that come before and after it. However, this author is far from being a middle-of-the-road storyteller. Frankie encounters challenges left and right, the most torturous of which are the twisted riddles that play with not just her head, but those of her men as well. Now, I've got more questions, and my countdown has begun for the third and final book in the Frozen Fate trilogy. I shall be waiting oh-so-impatiently! Cage of Ice and Echoes garners five stars.
