Review: Seven Nights to Surrender by Jeanette Grey (Art of Passion #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by Forever (Grand Central Publishing) in exchange for an honest review.

Kate is in Paris to find her muse before deciding whether or not to pursue her graduate studies. She finds herself a more than willing tour guide in the person of Rylan Bellamy. He not only takes her to the usual museums and galleries, but also to those off the beaten path. He then proceeds to take her to heights she never even dared fantasized about, and soon Kate is falling for Rylan. But Rylan has been keeping a part of himself secret, refusing to share with Kate certain details about himself. He believes that once she learns the truth of who he really is, she'll want to get as far away from him as possible. All they have is seven nights together, and Rylan intends to make it seven nights that Kate will never forget even after they part.

Seven Nights to Surrender is the first novel in the Art of Passion series from author Jeanette Grey and is a love story set in the city of lights, also known as Paris, France. Kate is an art student who flies to Paris to find the inspiration that she believes will spark life into her work. Rylan is an expat who has lived in Paris for about a year, running away from family woes and work responsibilities. Rylan limits the information that he gives Kate, but what he does share with her is considerably more than he's ever shared before. In less than a week's time, the two fall in love, but, as is the case when secrets are kept in a relationship, even though there's was only supposed to be a week-long fling, both Rylan and Kate end up with broken hearts.

This was a fairly fast-paced story and one that has Kate seeing her art in a different light, but also discovering a part of herself that she never thought could be brought to life by any man. When she meets Rylan, she's cautious and wary, but she's also very intrigued by him. While he doesn't really share too many details about himself, neither does she, though she makes it quite clear that she isn't really all that experienced when it comes to sex, having only had two previous partners. The two have definite chemistry together, but it's difficult to tell what Rylan's true motivations are, especially since we're given the reasons why he's run from his life back in New York, but very little is known about the kind of person he really is.

The book ends in a cliffhanger, so don't expect to find any resolution when it comes to both the love story between Kate and Rylan as well as Rylan's problems with his father's company. Their relationship may be in a limbo of sorts, but Kate appears to be quick to make certain decisions. The thing is with trying to separate love from lust, especially when both have already been mixed together before, is that you go in with good intentions--trying to protect yourself from further heartache--but will end up realizing that it's a near impossibility in the end. I'm definitely interested to find out more about Kate and Rylan's backgrounds and what happens next for them. I'm giving Seven Nights to Surrender four out of five stars. ♥
