Samantha Skye takes readers back to the small town of Whispers, where billionaires have been known to not play but stay, with the third novel in her Billionaires of Whispers series. Connor is about thirty-five-year-old Connor Whiteman, chief financial officer of Whiteman's, a company he co-owns with his father that includes a distillery for their renowned whiskey. Wanting to expand their business, Connor is tasked to do some on-site research by going to a spa in New York. It's there that he meets twenty-four-year-old Daisy Beckett. She's the person her mother relies on the most at her wellness clinic, but Daisy also dreams of having her own spa, one with a yoga space, that she could truly put her stamp on. Saying yes to becoming the on-site consultant for the Whiteman Distillery Spa would certainly help her in achieving that dream, but it would also mean being in close proximity to Connor for the duration of her contract. Her first impression of him wasn't all that great, regardless of how fine a specimen of a man he may be. However, the more time Daisy's around him, the more she realizes that there's more to Connor than meets the eye, but what future awaits them when her stay in Whispers ends and she returns to New York?
I have a soft spot for romances that have one of the main characters being taken down a peg or two by the other MC in the first few chapters. I got a kick out of Connor being taken by surprise over the fact that Daisy wasn't all swoony over him. Whenever these two were around each other, the back and forth was like a gift that kept on giving, and I, for one, have zero complaints. Daisy was highly independent, and while she loved working alongside her mother, she also had dreams of her own. Who would have thought that agreeing to become a consultant for Whiteman Distillery's upcoming spa addition would not only allow her to see those ideas of hers come to fruition but also become a springboard for so much more professionally and personally? She was this great balance of strength and sensitivity, and it isn't all that surprising that it took a woman like her to knock Connor's world of its axis. I confess that I was just like Connor's dad, Tanner, who seemed really eager to see his son experience the ups and downs of realizing he was in love. The main reason I can't give this book five stars is that the suspense aspect came out of left field, but Connor was still every bit an enjoyable read, and it gets 4.5 stars out five stars.
