Review: Tanner by Samantha Skye (The Billionaires of Whispers #1)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via The Author Agency.
Tanner is the first novel in the Billionaires of Whispers, and it serves as my introduction to Samantha Skye's writing, what with her being a new-to-me author. The Billionaires of Whispers appears to be a spin-off of Skye's The Baltimore Boys series, and while my curiosity was indeed piqued, I can safely say that a reader like me who is unfamiliar with the aforementioned previous series will be able to fully enjoy this new series starter without having to wonder if they're missing any necessary or important information.
After catching her fiancé cheating on her and then losing her job due to restructuring, finding out that an aunt she doesn't remember has bequeathed her entire estate to her only niece is the silver lining that Victoria MacArthur (30) desperately needs. She knows nothing about caring for her late Aunt Marie's farm animals and the house definitely requires some major renovation, but she's more than ready for the challenge. What she wasn't quite prepared for was her neighbor, Tanner Whiteman (51). The billionaire makes it clear from the start that he wants the land she's inherited, but soon enough, it seems that Tanner wants Victoria even more.
One of the joys I get out of reading is coming across both new (aka debut) and new-to-me authors and wanting to dive into even more of their stories. That's exactly how I felt once I got to the end of my first ever read from Samantha Skye. Victoria and Tanner's romance had as much heart as it did heat, and I love it whenever that balance is struck. There was also a great emphasis on family, whether it be the kind that shares the same blood or the one that you find and surround yourself with. I'm definitely going to be coming back to the town of Whispers for book two. Five stars go to Tanner.
