The world disappeared. This universe was ours alone.
“I pick you,” he said.
My heart doubled, tripled, until it felt too big. “I pick you.”
Where do I even begin with this review? The Treasure State Wildcats series is turning out to be a treasure trove—pun intended—of stories that have angst, wit, and most definitely, romance and a cast of characters that are perfectly imperfect, layered, and with depth. What's rather genius about this series is that the three currently available novels overlap in terms of timeline to a degree, yet they all work remarkably well as standalones, if I do say so myself. I loved Coach, a second chance romance, and I seriously liked Blitz, a forbidden romance; so yes, my expectations were undoubtedly quite lofty for Rally, the third and newest tale in the series. And guess what? All of those expectations were obliterated.
When Faye Gannon meets Rush Ramsey, she has no clue that he's the star quarterback of the Treasure State Wildcats, a fact that's rather refreshing for him. He lends a helping hand when she struggles with a flat tire, and even offers her a shared safe place to camp for the night. Then they see each other again, and this time around, their night is spent together...that is, till Faye up and disappears the morning after. They may both be twenty-one-year-old seniors attending the same university, but that doesn't necessarily mean their paths cross regularly. So when she realizes she's pregnant, not only does Faye need to have a serious discussion with Rush, but they'll have to come to a decision as to what the future holds for them.
What does one do when a story takes hold of you from the get-go and you have other things you have scheduled for the day? Welp, you set everything else aside and just keep reading, not that I had any other choice because Faye and Rush and their tale were just too intriguing and trying to concentrate on anything else would have been an exercise in futility. This was a slow burn romance, one that began with a chance meeting, then a one-night stand, leading to an unplanned pregnancy, and I was there for every touchstone in their relationship. They went from strangers to hook-ups to friends to lovers and then to far more. I lived for every page turned and was left with a major book hangover. Five-plus stars for Rally.
