Review: Heart of Frost and Scars by Pam Godwin (Frozen Fate #3)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
You know when you have a teeny, tiny ember of hope in you regarding something, and then it turns out that it was NOT all for naught, but you still find yourself kinda, sorta, maybe, abso-fucking-lutely mind-fucked? Yep, that's what happened with me while reading Heart of Frost and Scars, the third and final novel in Pam Godwin's Frozen Fate trilogy. The fact that this book picks up where the previous one left us should basically tell you that the series needs to be read in order. None of the books are standalones. It all begins with Hills of Shivers and Shadows, then continues with Cage of Ice and Echoes, and everything comes to a head with the conclusion, Heart of Frost and Scars. Maybe give yourselves a week to go through the entire series. These books are lengthy, and you will not want anything to distract you.
How does anyone who's read this book (or either of the first two) compose a review that doesn't give away anything in the story but still expresses how much of an impact it had on them? It isn't easy, but I'm pretty sure writing this dark romance that introduced readers to Frankie Novak (29 then 30) and the Strakhs--Montgomery (Monty, 49 then 50), Leonid (Leo), Kodiak (Kody), and Wolfson (Wolf, 23)--and their saga was far more demanding, or at least I'd think so. Of course, I'm not Pam Godwin, as anyone could probably tell from verbage tendencies, but she certainly gave my poor heart (and imagination) a workout with this series. She didn't take her foot off the proverbial gas pedal with the final book because she still had tricks up her sleeve. Heart of Frost and Scars wraps it all up in Godwinesque perfection. Five stars.
