Review: The Misfits of Copper County by May Archer (Copper County #3)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
I have a thing for books that bring a smile to my lips, a lightheartedness to my being, and makes me feel all swoony. So, it shouldn't be all that surprising that I have a thing for May Archer's Copper County series. I mean, these books are M/M romance reader catnip in general, but The Misfits of Copper County, the third full-length novel in the series, has a couple of my favorite tropes--small-town, enemies-to-lovers--and dare I call this grumpy/grumpy as an alternative to another go-to trope of mine, grumpy/sunshine? Laney and Brew were as wholeheartedly endearing as their story was fully entertaining, and did I mention that there was a Newfoundland named Teeny who stole each scene, the show, and my heart?
Delaney Monroe may be an award-winning journalist who knows how to sniff out a story, dig for information, and argue his point, but when it comes to Brewer Barnum, the struggle--to not throttle the frustratingly stoic man--is all too real. Sure, Brew may be a highly commendable contractor who knows what he's doing, but Laney is the client and shouldn't he get what he wants since he's the one paying for the renovation on the house he's bought in the small town of Copper County? Giving Brew a piece of his mind (again) is one thing, but accidentally burning the big guy's camper to a crisp was not on Laney's agenda. Neither was inviting Brew and his gigantic dog to live with him temporarily, but will it turn out to be the best thing to happen to them?
These supposed misfits were not only meant to be together, but they were meant to find and live out their happily-ever-after in Copper County! I enjoyed the heck out of Delaney and Brewer, aka Laney and Brew, and I adored how everything played out as they figured out how to get to that HEA of theirs. Both of these men did have a certain level of grumpiness to them, which is why I said at the beginning of this review that it felt like a grumpy/grumpy M/M romance, and you're getting zero complaints from me! The whole jam cupboard story line brought an interesting and rather heartwarming layer to not only Laney and Brew's romance but to the town's legacy as well. Five much deserved stars go to The Misfits of Copper County.
