Review: Grumpy Sunshine by Lani Lynn Vale (Content Advisory #1)

Content Advisory is the new spin-off series from Lani Lynn Vale, and it features the Truth Tellers motorcycle club who are from Texas. While I have yet to read the Semyonov Bratva series, I was still able to fully enjoy the new series starter and not feel like I was missing anything of note. Grumpy Sunshine is what kicks things off, and it is, indeed, a grumpy sunshine romance with Chevy Clayborne, an anesthesiologist and member of the Truth Tellers MC, and Aella Cowan, a patient care technician studying to be a surgical technician, with both working at the same hospital. He's got two brothers (not including his club brothers) and one sister, Copper, Cutter (married to Milena Semyonov), and Keely (married to Dima Semyonov), and she's got one half-sister, Silver Donahue. Both have somewhat complicated family backgrounds, no thanks to his father and her mother, but while his has been taken care of, she's still forced to deal with her leech of a "parent".

If there's one thing I can say that's consistent with Lani Lynn Vale's books, it's that they're all highly entertaining. Do you need to suspend your disbelief more often than not? Yes, you do, but if you're looking for escapism in your romance novels, then look no further. That trend continues with Grumpy Sunshine, and Aella and Chevy were main characters who clicked. While she was highly independent and didn't necessarily need a dark knight in leather on a chrome stallion riding in to rescue her, he certainly nudged--cough, shoved, cough--things in place so as to help ease the burdens weighing her down. The whole situation with Aella's mother is a firm reminder that not everyone who has children is meant to be a parent. There's a fair bit of humor to lighten things up, and Chevy's alpha male energy is balanced nicely with Aella's fierce and fiesty nature. This was a strong start to the new series, and I look forward to reading more. 4.5 stars.
