Review: End Game by Felice Stevens (Brooklyn Kings #2)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Gay Romance Reviews.
End Game is the second book in the Brooklyn Kings series from Felice Stevens, and while the first book was focused more on the new team owner and his assistant, this time, we don't have just one but two players from the team. This is Devlin Summers and Brody Martin's story--nicknamed Devil and Blink, respectively--and it's one that plays out over more than a decade.
Everyone knows that Devlin Summers and Brody Martin were teammates in college and are finally on the same pro team. What people don't know is that the quarterback and the tight end aren't just friends--they've been lovers since their senior year in college. They have a great deal to lose if their secret relationship ever came out, but could they ultimately win in the end?
If I had to pick one thing I loved about this book, it would have to be the main characters, with Devlin edging out Brody as my favorite because the former just felt like a more well-rounded and developed MC. Keeping their relationship secret felt more realistic than, let's say, romances where the MCs are openly committed to each other from some early point in the story.
My main sticking point has to do with the time jumps. We'd skip forward by days, weeks, months, and years, and we see where Devlin and Brody are at these points but miss out on the journey to them being the committed couple that they were. And as much as I liked Devlin, I wasn't a fan of what he did near the end of the book. So, all things considered, End Game snags 3.5 stars.
