Review: Worth the Fight by K. Bromberg (The Malone Brothers #1)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
It was back in 2017 that K. Bromberg launched her Everyday Heroes series, and it not only spawned three of her own titles, with the last two being published in 2018, but there was a whole multi-author book universe that came to life. Well, Bromberg has revamped the three novels she wrote by changing the title of the series to The Malone Brothers, as well as shifting the order of the books and giving two of them new titles. If you've read the original series, nothing has changed content-wise. I know because I was there to experience the three Malone brothers fall in love in 2017 and 2018, yet I can happily say that re-reading was a no-brainer for me because of how much I adored these stories the first time I read them.
Worth the Fight, formerly titled Combust, is about Grady Malone, the youngest among the brothers. He's a firefighter who's got a new roommate in the form of Dylan McCoy. She's a songwriter in desperate need to get away from everything being thrown her way. From catching her boyfriend in bed with someone else to her agent who doesn't only remind her that she has a contract that requires her to work with the cheating louse but that she needs to keep the demise of said relationship under wraps until all the songs have been written and recorded, Dylan just needs some respite. When her brother suggests she stay with Grady, the last thing either of them is the heat between the become all-consuming. She's been burned by love and his life is engulfed by flames, but being together could be just what they need--that is, if both their hearts don't get singed first.
Re-reading a book doesn't immediately mean that you'll still love it the second time around. They can hit you differently, especially if it's years between the reads. So yeah, that possibility existed with Worth the Fight. However, Grady and Dylan and their story were still as special as the first time I experienced them. These main characters had a great deal of depth to them, and they became a part of each other's lives at just the right time. I also want to note the supporting characters, with Grant and Grayson, aka Grady's older brothers, getting special mention. This was a romance, but it was also about family, which is what I loved about this series when it was first released. Worth the Fight is worth the (re)read. It gets five stars.
