Review: Hudson by Samantha Skye (The Billionaires of Whispers #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via The Author Agency.

After finishing Tanner, which was the first book in the Billionaires of Whispers series and my introduction to Samantha Skye's writing, I've been counting the days until I could finally get my greedy hands on the next novel, and it's finally here! Hudson is a single-parent, small-town romantic suspense read, and it has thirty-six-year-old Hudson Hamilton as the eponymous title character. This successful doctor is making the (permanent) move from the big city of Los Angeles on the West Coast to his small hometown of Whispers on the East Coast. This was as much for him as it was for his young son, Harvey, and while he was taking over as the resident doctor at the local hospital, he wanted a far less exacting life. It didn't hurt that he had family and his closest friends in town as well. And there was the presence of Lacy Jones to take into consideration as well. After the harrowing events that led to his rescuing the twenty-three-year-old, she was never far from his thoughts. But the new marketing manager for Whiteman's Whiskey has a great deal on her plate, and the last thing she needs is the hot distraction that is Hudson Hamilton.

These billionaires that call Whispers home are a force of nature--but then so are the women who grab a hold of their hearts. Hudson and Lacy were already aware of each other's presence in the series starter, but it was what happened to her and Victoria and their rescue afterwards that had Hudson's protective instincts in hyper drive when it came to Lacy. I couldn't help but feel for Lacy and everything she was going through--her mother's health, the reason why she finished her degree from Whispers, and the ongoing impact of what happened to her in Marie's Place. There was no doubting how strong and courageous Lacy was, but it took a while for her to accept help and admit that she barely had her head above water at times. I liked seeing Lacy and Hudson building a foundation of sorts for the relationship, especially considering that this wasn't some sort of fling for either of them. The romance was good, but I confess that the suspense part was even better. I enjoyed Hudson and can't wait for the next billionaire of Whispers to fall in love and find his own happily-ever-after as well when he least expects it. Four stars.
