Review: Playing Mr. Perfect by Melissa Foster (The Bradens at Ridgeport #1)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
The Bradens at Ridgeport is the new spin-off series from bestselling author Melissa Foster, and if you've read Enticing Her Love (The Steeles at Silver Island #6), which was Flynn Braden and Sutton Steele's story, then you've gotten a glimpse of the Braden family. The first book in the series features Clay Braden, the middle child among the brood of five, with older siblings Victoria and Seth and younger brothers Flynn and Noah bracketing him. The thirty-five-year-old star quarterback for the New York Giants is paired with Pepper Montgomery, a thirty-year-old scientist who heads her own research and development company--and yes, she's the sister of Grace (with Reed Cross, Embracing Her Heart, The Bradens & Montgomerys, Pleasant Hill - Oak Hill #1), her twin, Sable (with Kane Bad, Falling for Mr. Bad, The Bradens & Montgomerys: A Bad Boys After Dark Crossover Novel #2), Morgyn (with Graham Braden, Trails of Love, The Bradens & Montgomerys, Pleasant Hill - Oak Hill #3), Brindle (with Trace Jericho, Wild, Crazy Hearts, The Bradens & Montgomerys, Pleasant Hill - Oak Hill 4), Amber (with Dash Pennington, Sweet, Sexy Heart, The Bradens & Montgomerys, Pleasant Hill - Oak Hill #8), and Axsel, the youngest and only boy.
Clay Braden has had a thing for Pepper Montgomery for a while, and Pepper has done her best to pretend the feeling isn't mutual. Neither is naïve enough to believe it's love, but there's a connection there that's begging to be delved into, if only Pepper would stop running away from Clay. What better place than Paris for them to find themselves in each other's constant company? Liquid courage has her landing in bed with Clay, but in the too-bright light of day, Pepper's first instinct is to flee. Clay, however, has other plans for them. A bit of fun in Paris was supposed to be more of a fling than anything else, but could it have actually be the beginning of something more than either Pepper or Clay may have expected? Could the man who hates being called Mr. Perfect actually be perfect for the woman with a secret reckless side?
I've been looking forward to getting to know this set of Bradens ever since Flynn found his happily-ever-after with Sutton Steele in the last book in the Steeles at Silver Island series, and Clay--and Pepper--did not disappoint. After all, Flynn and Sutton's story had set the bar high, and Clay and Pepper handily met it, thanks to a great romance that had such sizzling chemistry between the main characters and family dynamics that I know will have me eagerly awaiting each and every book in this series. I loved seeing Pepper embrace Reckless, as well as Clay being the one who fell first and how dedicated he was in his pursuit of Pepper. Playing Mr. Perfect receives five stars, and I can't wait for the next visit to Ridgeport!
