Review: The Merger by Adriana Locke (The Brewer Family #4)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
Forty-year-old Gannon Brewer takes to responsibility like a duck to water, but then that's what happens when you have the kind of father that he and his siblings did. Unlike three of his younger brothers, he isn't the type to accidentally marry someone, fall into a marriage of convenience, or agree to a fake relationship. He's already been married once, and that was more than enough to show him that he isn't looking to commit to anyone. So, when his youngest brother's best friend insists that he needs her--or rather, that Brewer Group needs her Plantcy's mobile plant sitting services--Gannon does his best to distance himself from the temptation that is twenty-seven-year-old Carys Johnson. But just like Carys knows what Gannon's plants need, she also lets him know that she knows what she wants--and that's him. She assures him she isn't looking for forever, and she tells him there's no way she's offering him her heart. Her body, though? Well, that would be his for the taking--and how could Gannon resist? They know what they're getting into, so why is it that the longer it plays out, neither one wants their merger to end?
I'll admit it: I wasn't sure if I was going to like Gannon. My first glimpse of Gannon had me questioning how this aloof, rigid grump of a workaholic would not only win Carys over, but me, as well. But a couple of chapters in, and he had piqued my curiosity. That fortified wall of his started to crumble, brick by brick, thanks to the irresistible force of nature that was his youngest brother, Tate's, bestie. Learning about the circumstances that have shaped who Gannon is today was enlightening. I was already familiar with the ones connected with the Brewer patriarch having read the previous books, but the other bits and pieces gave me a better understanding of who Gannon was. Then along came Carys, and the real Gannon--the one he allowed himself to be with her--came to life. And yep, it happened--I fell for Gannon right alongside Carys because there was simply no way I couldn't. Not with how their love story played out, and not with how much growth came about once these two were together. Of course, the rest of the Brewers were present and accounted for, and I can never get enough of the family dynamics; those group texts are my personal catnip. The Merger gets five stars, and with four of the brothers finding love, there's just one more to go and while I wonder if I'm right as to who Tate will be paired with, I cannot wait regardless of who it may be and how the youngest Brewer brother gets himself a long awaited HEA.
