Review: Talk Wicked to Me by Melissa Foster (The Wickeds: Dark Knights at Bayside #6)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

I tell ya, these Wickeds are, well, wickedly good! You know how some romance authors have families that they write books about, creating series and spin-offs about them, and then you grow attached and become emotionally invested? Those are the Wickeds for me, and not just the ones from Bayside either. I blame Melissa Foster for all of it, and by blame, I totally mean thank her because gah! I'm going to need every single Wicked in every single generation to have their story told. Too much? Maybe I'm a wee bit obsessed with this protective family. They're like the gift that keeps on giving, not that I'm complaining.

Talk Wicked to Me is the sixth novel in the Wickeds: Dark Knights at Bayside series, and Baxter "Baz" Wicked, thirty-four, and Emerson Lockheart, twenty-eight, are at the heart of this romance. He's a veterinarian who owns Cape Veterinary Clinic; she's a developmental editor who is nine months pregnant and has recently moved to the Cape from New York. An emergency visit to the clinic with her dog, Ollie--a name I absolutely adore--is their meet-cute, and what a life-changing meet-cute it was. He goes on to help deliver her baby boy, Brennan, and the bond between them continues to solidify henceforth. They're friends who seem to be meant for more, but with Baz leaving for a four-month assignment with Veterinarians Without Borders and Emerson's fierce independence, can they even risk wishing for forever?

Ah, Baz and Emerson's romance hit the spot. It was fun, swoony, lighthearted, and with just enough angst to make me smile. Yeah, yeah, that sounds weird, but I have a thing for angst in my romances. There was one point in the story where I actually cried, but not due to angst! From the moment Emerson rushed into Baz's veterinary practice with her dog, Ollie (a name which earns bonus points because it was the nickname of my soul dog, Oliver), I was hooked on these two. Baz was just there for Emerson, and then when his family learned about her, they extended the love and care they've always be known for to her and her adorable boy, too. Talk Wicked to Me is a perfect example of why I read romance. Five stars!
