Review: Jason and the Storm by Layla Reyne (Soul to Find #1.5)
Jason and the Storm is a novella in the Soul to Find series penned by Layla Reyne, and it's currently available for free via BookFunnel. This can be read independently of the series starter, Icarus and the Devil, but it does serve as a good in-between story before diving into the upcoming second novel, Paris and the Reaper. Jason and Kai are part of a trio of best friends, including Paris Cirillo, whose own story plays out next. Things are not going well in Yerba Buena--and it looks like it'll get exponentially worse soon--but in order for him and Kai to get out of this forsaken place, Jason knows they need more than what Kai makes bartending and Jason pouring cement. One more score should do it, but nothing goes according to plan. All Jason wanted was to protect Kai, but it seems that Kai will be the one rescuing him.
I love it when an author has a limited number of pages to work with, but they're still able to give their readers a story with heart and soul. There was more to Kaimus Finley, aka Kai, than meets the eye, and there was no doubting how much he and Jason loved each other. These best friends were more than deserving of a happily-ever-after; they just needed to make sure they would be alive to enjoy it. This story does overlap with the events that play out in the next book in the series, but again, this novella can be read on its own. Having said that, I do recommend that the series be read in order because of recurring characters and how certain plot lines tie together. Jason and the Storm easily garners five stars.
