Review: Paris and the Reaper by Layla Reyne (Soul to Find #2)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
I already know how exceptional of an author Layla Reyne is when it comes to romantic suspense and contemporary romance, but with urban fantasy romance, she's more than proven her mettle with her Soul to Find series. Paris and the Reaper is the second full-length novel and the third book overall. Readers familiar with the series will remember Paris Cirillo from the previous books, Icarus and the Devil and Jason and the Storm, and now, this human and reluctant heir of his evil father's empire steps into the spotlight, paired with Cormac Kelley, a raven shifter who works as a cop. Oh, and Mac happens to be a reaper as well. Mac saved Paris as he was being sacrificed, courtesy of his own father. Now, Paris finds himself hearing the voices of lost souls, and maybe he can now serve a bigger purpose by helping Mac, his deliverer of souls, find them. In the process, will Paris be able to show Mac that their bond is one that they may possibly have forever?
It's been a little over a year since Layla Reyne introduced readers to this world where humans and shifters existed and Chaos and Nature battled for control via Icarus and the Devil. Her novella, Jason and the Storm, helped to keep the hunger for more of the Soul to Find series at bay, but I must say that I was all grabby hands for Paris and the Reaper. This return to Yerba Buena and Talahalusi was filled with action, suspense, and romance, and I relished every single bit of it. The pairing of Paris and Mac was simply *chef's kiss*. From the moment the latter swoops in to rescue the former, there was no turning back--I was invested. The slow burn romance meshed so perfectly with Paris, Mac, and the rest of those helping them to get answers regarding giants, lost souls, and the bond Paris and Mac shared. It all made for an exhilarating read, which is why it gets five stars. And now the wait begins for Atlas and the Traitor, which I think will be about a little less than a year.
