Review: Searching for Tomorrow by Kathryn McNeill Crane (Tomorrows #1)

Searching for Tomorrow is the first novel in the Tomorrows series from author Kathryn McNeill Crane and is the moving tale of a widow named Amelia Wrynn Broun Tidwell, better known as Wrynn, who has been trying to live a life without her husband and best friend by her side. She has more than her fair share of struggles, often excacirbated by her intolerable mother-in-law, but with her twin brother Liam and their parents being there for her, she does the best job possible as mother to her three girls. Tripp was and continues to be the love of her life but her happily ever after was abruptly taken away from her when she learned of Tripp's death while deployed. Their love story is told in chapters with flashbacks interspersed with Wrynn's current journey of life after Tripp. Three years may have passed, but the loss of Tripp still feels fresh, often suffocating Wrynn and leaving her feeling hopeless and helpless. Will there come a time when Wrynn will be able to look back on all her yesterdays less wistfully and live for each new tomorrow?

If you're looking for an emotional read filled with poignancy and with an inspiring female character at the helm, you need not look any farther than this book. It was impossible for me not to feel the highs and lows that Wrynn did because she was a character who inspired both empathy and admiration. Her voice felt and sounded honest and authentic, how I imagined someone who lost the person who meant the most them in such tragic circumstances and so far from home would feel and sound. Her shared love story with Tripp was beautiful, and you could see why they were so perfect for one another and later understand why his death was as devastating as it was, even three years afterwards. There's a major twist in the story, one that shocked the heck out of me, but I loved how it gave Wrynn the ending she so deserved. Both Tripp and Liam were fantastic characters as well, and I seriously hated Mother Tidwell--wicked stepmothers have nothing on this wicked mother-in-law--but Wrynn owned Searching for Tomorrow, which gets five stars. ♥
