Review: Vegas Love by Jillian Dodd

Could Hollywood actress Ashlyn Roberts's week possibly get any worse? Not only has a sex tape she supposedly filmed with an ex-boyfriend surfaced, her boy band member boyfriend has decided she isn't worth the trouble of being seen with, not with this latest scandal shadowing her. Add to that suspicions being raised that her publicist has been spreading rumors about her and that her manager is bilking her out of her hard-earned money. Oh, and have we mentioned her estranged mother who struggles with addiction and only gets in touch with Ashlyn when she needs cash? If anyone needs a pick me up, it's Ashlyn, and she finds it in a bottle of champagne and in Cash Crawford. They don't give their real names but enjoy a night together in Vegas, one that culminates in a wedding that may actually beat all the odds.

Vegas Love is a standalone contemporary romance from bestselling author Jillian Dodd and is a refreshingly different take from the usual celebrity-falling-for-a-regular-person love story. Ashlyn Roberts may be doing well in the box office, but her personal life is an absolute flop. When she meets Cash Crawford, he allows her to be whoever the heck she wants to be during their night of no-holds-barred fun and a heck of a lot of f***ing. They don't provide too much basic personal information about one another, but Cash is more than aware of who Ashlyn is and he gets to see a side of her that isn't seen by the media and fans--the side that makes her real and human. Their story begins on the night they meet and get hitched in Vegas, but if you thought this would end in a quickie divorce, you've got another thing coming.

This was my very first Jillian Dodd read and I quite enjoyed this lighthearted tale of how a Vegas kind of love can actually develop into the kind of love that could last a lifetime. I doubt that Ashlyn and Cash were truly, madly, and deeply in love with one another when they impulsively tied the knot in Vegas. There were copious amounts of alcohol involved and while there was definite sexual chemistry between the two of them, I don't think that really qualifies as a love that you feel entrenched in your soul. What I think did happen was they got married and fell in love as they got to know each other more intimately, inside and outside the bedroom, afterward. These two chose to get and stay married and it's the love story that happens after they put those rings on their fingers that had me entertained and fascinated all throughout.

I really liked Ashlyn and Cash as a couple. I think that Cash was exactly what she needed in her life because he could make sense of everything going around her and anticipated what she needed and wanted. There were times, though, that I felt Ashlyn's naivete when it came to her publicist and manager abusing their relationships wasn't realistic, especially since she's been in the business for about eight years and innocence like that made her a patsy of sorts. There was also a point in the story where she tells her then-boyfriend that she doesn't do drugs, but then later it turns out that she gets high while on-set, so there was a definite disconnect. Still, I found myself satisfied with the overall story and the cast of characters, and I hope Cash's three siblings get their own stories told in the near future. I'm giving Vegas Love four stars. ♥
