Review: Jackson by Melissa Foster (Wild Boys After Dark #3)

Note: This ARC was provided by Tasty Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

They've been best friends since they were teenagers and when they were both seventeen, Jackson Wild and Erica Lane slept together and made a pact that they've kept true to for thirteen years. They've been with other people, but Jackson and Laney still come to each other when the urge to do so comes to them, spurned on by either the most mundane or the most intense of situations. Things are as they should be in their worlds, but when Laney receives an unexpected marriage proposal, both Jackson and Laney find themselves at a loss. There's no denying that they love one another, but Jackson has never been the type to commit and he knows that Laney is the kind of woman that deserves to have a ring on her finger and a family to call her own. Will Jackson realize too late that Laney is the one woman he's always committed to?

Jackson is the third book in the Melissa Foster-penned Wild Boys After Dark series, which has four books that can be read as standalones, but I highly suggest that you read each of the books in order so that you can experience all the hotness and romance that the four Wild brothers can offer. This third story may be the shortest but it certainly doesn't lack in terms of story or character development and it takes the friends-to-lovers trope to a whole new level because Jackson Wild and Erica are best friends who also happen to be lovers but aren't involved in a committed relationship to each other...at least "committed" in the traditional sense. They love each other and are completely loyal to their friendship and so are committed to one another as friends and to the pact they made as best friends with very explicit benefits.

I admit that there were times that I so wanted these two to simply confess their feelings to one another because it was clear that Jackson was "it" for Laney. This man who shied away from commitment because he believed he would never be able to give that to any woman and that no single woman could satisfy him was too blind to see what was right there in front of him for years. Of course, his family and close friends saw it from a mile away, but then it's been said before that some men are simply clueless when it comes to love. The ease that's always been there disappears and these two best friends struggle with their feelings of confusion and hurt once Laney gets that marriage proposal. My heart broke for these two, but I loved their story because the realization that they were meant for more was priceless. Jackson gets five stars. ♥
