Review: Illegally Yours by Kate Meader (Laws of Attraction #2)

Umm, is it okay to play favorites? Because Lucas Wright is darn swoon-worthy, people! Kate Meader offers up his story in the second book of her Laws of Attraction series, and this divorce lawyer is paired with a woman who knows her whiskey but is at a bit of a loss as to how to deal with the charming Brit who should be considered the enemy. And did I forget to mention that this has a reverse age gap as well, a personal favorite romance trope of mine, albeit the gap between the main characters is a mere six years.
Illegally Yours opens with a meet-cute that's more meet-awkward between Lucas Wright (28) and Trinity Jones (34). To make matters worse, he realizes that he's representing Trinity's soon-to-be former brother-in-law in the divorce proceedings between him and Trinity's younger sister. As drawn as Lucas and Trinity are to each other, it isn't ethical for him to become involved with her. But when push comes to shove and a conflict of interest becomes insurmountable, what will Lucas end up choosing? Sworn duty or true love?
The tension was strong with these two, and the struggle was oh-so-real. It was easy to understand why Lucas and Trinity were so torn, given the fact that Lucas was representing Trinity's brother-in-law and all. The thing is, I actually loved that there was a lot of back and forth between them. It made the anticipation all the more palpable. There was a wonderful balance of angst and wit all throughout, and I may have even shed a tear or two. So yes, I admit it: Illegally Yours is my favorite in the series. Five stars.
