Review: Wild Ever After by Rebecca Jenshak (Wildcat Hockey #3)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Valentine PR.

Wild Ever After is the third book in the Wildcat Hockey series from Rebecca Jenshak, and it's a marriage-of-convenience romance between Declan Sato and Jade Davis. He's a star hockey player for the Wildcats, and she's a writer for I Do magazine. When her engagement abruptly ends, Jade finds herself in desperate need of a new groom or else risk losing the traction she's been making at work. Having a Wildcat step in and volunteer to marry her is unexpected, but Declan is an all-around good guy, and who the heck was she to say no to his offer of help? All they need is to set some ground rules and stay married for a year. It shouldn't be all that difficult, right? But no one said how complicated everything would get once this fake couple fall in love.

I admit it: I'm not a huge fan of fake relationship romances, especially ones that involve marriages of convenience. Now, that doesn't mean that I hate these types of stories, but it does take quite a bit of convincing for me to find one swoon-worthy. It helped that Declan was as darn likable as he was. When he told Jade he would marry her, I was taken aback. He didn't have anything to gain from doing it, and if their secret arrangement were to come out, he had so much to lose in the fallout. As for Jade, well, I confess that it took quite a few chapters for me to warm up to her. I couldn't even blame her ex-fiancé for ending things because his points were valid. But the closer Declan and Jade got, the more I could see this side of her that I appreciated, and by the end, I was behind Mr. and Mrs. Sato being all happily AND wild ever after. Four stars.
