Review: Finding Wicked by Kathryn L. James (Mitchell Brothers #2)

Right before I started reading Finding Wicked, I confess that I was a wee bit anxious. I was thoroughly impressed with Chasing Wicked, the Mitchell Brothers series starter, so I had certain expectations when it came to his second novel. Well, wouldn't you know it; Kathryn L. James more than met my unspoken challenge and she did so rather nicely, if I do say so myself. Book two is about Garrett Mitchell, CEO of Mitchell Enterprises. He may come off as arrogant and demanding, but there's no denying that the man is passionate about what he does in a professional setting. Which makes his new--albeit temporary--executive assistant wonder if he's just as passionate in a not-so-professional manner. But the last thing Brooke Sheridan needs is to crush on her new boss. Her new position in the company means more income, and it's income that's going to the care of her very ill mother who's in dire need of a heart transplant. When their private plane, however, crash lands on a deserted island, there's nowhere for either of them to go--not for help, not for a way out, and certainly not from the simmering attraction ready to boil over...

I seriously liked the second chance love story between Stone Mitchell and Avery Anderson in book one, but I loved Garrett and Brooke's office romance turned island romance. The story had a lot of that delicious sexual tension that I enjoy reading about in my romance novels, but the author also had several surprises up its proverbial sleeve. I thought I saw a twist coming and then BAM! It never came; instead, there was something, well, a couple of somethings that left me blinking, as if I wasn't sure of the words on my tablet, if I had imagined it all in my head. And these twists actually made sense, meaning they weren't these nutty things thrown in just to spice the plot up. The chemistry between Garrett and Brooke was also the kind that makes the love and lust far more believable, the sort of chemistry that makes cheering for them towards their happily-ever-after something that becomes natural. James's writing was more than commendable. She gave me characters that I genuinely liked and a story that made me flip from one page to the next, making me rapt from beginning to end. I'm awarding Finding Wicked five stars. ♥
