Review: Fleeting Moments by Bella Jewel

It's been a couple of days since I finished reading Fleeting Moments, written by bestselling author Bella Jewel, and I'm still unsure of how to rate it. To be honest, I didn't like the female main character, Lucy Jacobson, a twenty-seven-year-old woman married to Gerard Jacobson for three years, together as a couple for double that, who is finally pregnant with their first child at the beginning of the story. They're very much in love and life appears to be ideal for them, especially since their dream of becoming a family is coming true after several failed attempts. Lucy's life changes when she insists on going to a baseball game that ends up becoming a hostage situation. That one moment triggers a domino effect, and it touches not just her husband and her unborn child, but that of her parents as well as the stranger who saves her from what happened at the baseball stadium. Everything around her unravels and Lucy's handling of various situations frustrated me to no end, leaving me with very little to no patience for her.

Lucy was irritating. She made choices and decisions and didn't really care how it affected everyone else, only concerned with what she wanted and needed. She was selfish and like a dog with a bone, kept at her self-imposed mission to find Heath Walker, her rescuer who is known only to her, with her Gerard and others thinking she's conjured him in her imagination, possibly due to some form of post-traumatic stress. She put her marriage at risk as well as the safety of Heath and those who were with him, and for what? To prove that she wasn't crazy? Because she became obsessed with Heath? It's easy to blame Gerard and label him an "emotional cripple" and someone who wasn't there to emotionally support her, but let's not forget that he was going through not just the loss of their unborn child but had to take care of his wife. Don't get me wrong, I liked the story, but for the life of me, I couldn't stand Lucy and my dislike for her affected my overall reading experience. Taking all things into consideration, I'm giving Fleeting Moments three stars. ♥
