Review: "One More Chance" by Abbi Glines

You know how a book you've fallen in love with ends on a cliffhanger and then you end up anxiously waiting for the sequel to come out, counting the days, wondering how the heck everything's going to be resolved, and if you'll finally get the happily ever after you're craving for or yet another heartbreaking cliffhanger? That's exactly what happened to me after finishing Take a Chance, the first book in the Chance series by bestselling author Abbi Glines. Suffice it to say, I couldn't wait for September to roll around!

All the waiting paid off once I got my hands on One More Chance, the much anticipated sequel to the aforementioned book that caused my book anxiety. ^.^ I fell even more in love with Grant Carter and Harlow Manning and their story. This book picks up soon after the events in the first book and I was glad that there wasn't this immediate resolution to how the author left things. What can I say? Delayed gratification has its benefits. ^.^

The time Grant spends away from Harlow gives him the opportunity to truly realize just how much he loves her and how badly he handled learning about her heart ailment. He's been desperately trying to find her and leaves her sweet voice messages every night he calls her, hoping that she'll finally call him back. On the other hand, Harlow knows that Grant loves her and was scared of losing her, but while she loves him unconditionally, she has yet another secret she's keeping from him, and this one may either make or break the very love they share.

This book was heartbreakingly beautiful, with a story that was unexpected yet showcased a maturity that wasn't as on display as the other books in the Rosemary Beach books. The characters made you feel with and for them, running the gamut from turmoil and depression to joy and contentment. Both Grant and Harlow evolved in this sequel. I can't pinpoint just one moment in the book that stood out for me because the book, as a whole, was a standout and is Abbi Glines' best work to date.

I hope that Harlow's half-siblings, Nan and Mase, will have their respective stories told. Nan was a revelation in this book and it was interesting to have a tiny glimpse to the kind of person she is on the inside and what motivates her to do what she does. Yes, she's a bitch but I want to know what made her that way and if there's someone out there who can break her out of that mold. Mase was quiet but intense and I'm sure the guy has his own secrets just waiting to be shared with all of us. ♥

If you're not too familiar with the Chance series, it's part of the Rosemary Beach umbrella series. May I suggest that you begin with the Too Far books: Fallen Too Far, Never Too Far, Forever Too Far, and Rush Too Far. Follow that up with the Perfection duet: Twisted Perfection and Simple Perfection. Then you can read Take a Chance and One More Chance. There are other spin-off series being planned so get to reading so that you'll be all caught up by the time those books are released! ^.^

One More Chance gets a perfect five-star rating! I can't wait to see what Abbi Glines has in store for us next!
