Review: "Cut & Run" by Madeleine Urban & Abigail Roux

Let me begin by saying that I've been itching to write this (and every single review regarding the Cut & Run series) since I finished reading all the available books. Saying that I'm now obsessed with all things Ty and Zane is an understatement. Just ask my best friend who thinks I'm a tad nutty for gushing over two guys who are too into each other to even notice me if they actually existed in "real life". My heart actually hurt a little when she pointed that out. Ouch! I read M/M books before this one; I just never came across a book or series in this sub-genre that's affected me this much. Take note: I read the books last month and I'm still obsessing over them! So, this is me warning you in advance...I may be a bit enthusiastic with this and upcoming reviews that have to do with the Cut & Run series. ♥

Now, on to the review...

Cut & Run is the first book in the series of the same name and was written by Madeleine Urban, now retired, and Abigail Roux. The series as a whole follows the journey of FBI Special Agents B. Tyler Grady and Zane Z. Garrett as partners, both professionally and personally. Book one introduces both lead characters and has them being thrown together to help find a serial killer in New York City. Ty and Zane are seemingly polar opposites--Ty is brash and aggressive but is the best in his field; Zane is quiet and passive but knows when to make a stand. They both have their own dark secrets and are wary about working as a team. They don't like each other but they have a job to do, so they try to tolerate the other's presence while trying to ignore what's boiling just beneath the surface: an attraction that neither believe the other reciprocates.

I loved, loved, LOVED the mix of action, thriller, and love story in this book! I didn't even care that I figured out who the killer was several chapters in because I seriously wanted to find out how the story was going to play out. Add to that the back and forth between Ty and Zane and I found myself giddy with excitement until I got the very end. By the end, I couldn't stop the smile on my face and simply had to read the rest of the series. I mean, come on! How can you not fall in love with Ty and Zane?! These two had me hooked and it's highly probably that I'll cry when the series comes to an end. No, really, I'll shed tears. I've already made plans to save up and buy the paperbacks (which are not exactly cheap but I simply NEED this series on my bookshelf). Yes, I am a strange one, aren't I?

Cut & Run had me laughing at Ty's antics, smirking at Zane's being stoic, and cheering them on as they figured the ins and outs (pun very much intended) of their fledgling relationship and what the future may have in store for them (trust me--there's a LOT that happens after book one and I should know because I've read the other available books in the series).

I simply had to give Cut & Run five stars because it was AWESOME and have included it on my list of all-time favorites (and the series is on a separate list of all-time favorites). This book sets the tone for the rest of the series and I hope that you'll give it a try if you haven't already. ^.^  When you're done and you find yourself squeeing in delight, drop me a line and we can fangirl together. ♥
