Review: You've Always Been Mine by Jenika Snow (You're Mine #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Ardent PRose in exchange for an honest review.

You've Always Been Mine is a sweet and sexy love story about two ten-year-old best friends who were forced to lead separate lives only to find each other again twelve years later in the hometown that bore witness to the beginnings of their friendship. This is the second novella in bestselling author Jenika Snow's You're Mine series, which has a sweeter feel to the stories and tend to be more about fated love and soul mates and the like. This was a really great read, one that kept a perma-smile of sorts on my face and could very well be my favorite Jenika Snow-penned tale of the moment. There's no insta-love here, but more of a true love whose time had finally come.

Paige and Erik became best friends when they were in kindergarten and for four years, their bond grew stronger. When Erik's family had to move away, he promised Paige he'd keep in touch, leaving with her a red string to ensure she never forgot him. Paige, in turn, echoed that promise. But years passed and while they tried to keep the bonds of friendship going, real life took over. A dozen years have passed and Erik has now returned to the one place--the one person--that has kept hold of his heart. Paige is even more beautiful now and he wants to tell her that she's always been the one for him. Will Paige return the sentiment or have too many years passed for Erik to claim her?

I liked Erik and Paige together. I think theirs was the kind of love that time or distance couldn't have truly burnt out. I understand the not being able to keep in touch, but based on my own personal experience, even the lack of communication doesn't always diminish a friendship. There was more anticipation that was built over the years, and they both held out hope of seeing each other again, which is why You've Always Been Mine was such a sweet, romantic read. I know there are probably people out there who'll say it isn't realistic, and maybe to some degree, that's true. But true love knows no bounds, and for Paige and Erik, their love soared above and beyond. 4.5 stars. ♥
