Review: It's You: Book One by Katy Regnery writing as K.P. Kelley (It's You #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Elle Woods PR in exchange for an honest review.

Bestselling author Katy Regnery has just released her first ever paranormal romance and the first in a duet sharing the same title, It's You, which she's written using the pen name K.P. Kelley. It's a second chance romance of sorts between Darcy Turner and Jack Beauloup, who spent one summer aware of each other's presence without letting the other know. He was seventeen and she was fifteen when they met, and eighteen and sixteen, respectively, when they shared the kiss that would bind them to one another for the next twenty years. It takes those two decades before their paths cross again. The connection feels just as strong--if not stronger--but Darcy wants answers as to why Jack disappeared without a word and why it took this long for him to return. Jack is prepared to explain, but the answers he's ready to give Darcy may bring about even more questions, the kind that may either lead her to think he's crazy or, even worse, that she'd rather not be with Jack. But they are bound to one another, and against everyone's and Darcy's own objections, Darcy belongs to Jack, and Jack belongs to Darcy. For eternity.

Book one of It's You is more romance than it is paranormal, although it does give quite a fair amount explanation as to what Jack truly is, an explanation mired in myth by Darcy's best friend Willow and in the actual fantastical truth by Jack. In this story, fact is, indeed, stranger than fiction, but it's the one that makes the most sense as to what happened between Jack and Darcy as teenagers after they kissed and what's been happening ever since. Katy Regnery once again gives fans and readers a story worth putting your time into and giving your attention to. It's told in two parts, the first from Darcy's point of view, the second from Jack's. I liked that Darcy felt torn between listening to her head and her heart because if we're being honest here, Jack's confessions would fill anyone doubt. Saying that she should trust in their feelings for each other doesn't make the reaction feel real. Remember, this is a woman who relies on facts and figures. She is a scientist--a botanist--after all. This first half of the duet ends in a cliffhanger, but the wait is just two weeks. I'm excited to see how it's all resolved. It's You: Book One gets 4.5 stars. ♥
