Hello, Melanie Moreland, and welcome to my radar. Take about an overwhelmingly fabulous introduction to her writing. It Started with a Kiss is a contemporary romance between main characters Avery Connor and Daniel Stewart. Their love story does, indeed, begin with a kiss, but how they get to that first kiss and everything that happens afterwards surprised the heck out of me. This was like an insta-love novella...but not really. I know, I know. That doesn't really make much sense, but let's just say that it had that insta-love feel where there's this instant chemistry and connection between two strangers and the development of their romance looks like it's on warp speed, except in the case of this standalone, there's an actual, well-thought out story AND there are complications that come along the way to test the couple and these new emotions that they find themselves trying to figure out.

One does it as a favor to her best friend, the other as payment on a bet he lost to his sister, but what twenty-seven-year-old accountant Avery Connor and thirty-two-year-old veterinarian Daniel Stewart never expected was for that kiss between strangers to open the floodgates to endless possibilities of more. I adored Avery and Daniel and Melanie Moreland took a story that have could ended up being just like everything else and made it extraordinary. It's sweet, and not overly so, with just enough steam to keep things interesting and we've got a cast of supporting characters who provide generous amounts of humor. There's drama but it's lighthearted, though I confess that there were a couple of times in the story that I found myself tearing up. It Started with a Kiss is an example of great modern-day romance and it was a fantastic change of pace from my usual reading fare. Five stars. ♥
