Review: Billionaire in Wolf's Clothing by Terry Spear (Billionaire Wolf #1)

Billionaire in Wolf's Clothing is my first ever Terry Spear read and it's the Billionaire Wolf series starter as well. Jade Ashton knows that her three-year-old son Toby will never be accepted by her brother's pack. With a she-wolf for a mother and a human for a father, Toby is seen as nothing more than an anomaly, and a dangerous one at that since he may bring nothing more than unwanted attention to any pack he becomes a part of. When she's ordered by her brother to get close to billionaire Rafe Denali, Jade knows she has no other choice but to agree to his demands. Her brother is holding Toby hostage and her son's life now hangs in the balance unless Jade gets the information that her brother is seeking. The famous billionaire bachelor and secret wolf shifter may not even notice someone like her, but notice her he does, and that was even before she nearly drowned and he came to her rescue. Rafe is wary and he knows right off that Jade is hiding something. He wants the truth and she wants information, but they also want each other, and that alone could prove to be far more dangerous. How can you mate a wolf that you can't trust?

This was a pretty good start to the series and we're introduced to a cast of characters that have proven to be interesting enough for me to want to continue and get to know their respective stories as the series continues. It's difficult enough for Jade to get close to someone like Rafe, but the fact that they're both attracted to one another further complicates things. It's like she's stuck between a rock (her brother Kenneth's threats) and a hard place (her growing feelings for Rafe), and choosing one over the other will simply end up with her losing something--someone--important to her. There are long stretches in the story which I felt were unnecessary and served more as filler than anything of substance. The parts, though, that were about Jade and Rafe deciding if they should trust one another and trying to get Toby from his evil uncle and his pack and the interactions among the core group of characters--Jade, Rafe, and Toby plus Aidan Denali, Edward Manning, and Sebastian (no last name mentioned)--were what made this enjoyable overall and has me very curious about who's up next. 3.5 stars for Billionaire in Wolf's Clothing. ♥
