Review: A Wedding at Meadows Shore by Eva Charles (Meadows Shore #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by RockStar Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

A Wedding at Meadows Shore is the first book in the Eva Charles-penned contemporary romance series entitled Meadows Shore, which covers two sets of cousins--eleven in all, six brothers from the Harrington clan and five sisters from the Clayton clan--whose summer homes sit side by side along Meadows Shore. Book one is about Sophie Clayton, the eldest among the Clayton sisters and the director of a women's shelter, and Max Parker, a thirty-five-year-old lawyer who is known for his prowess both inside and outside of the courtroom. They clash the first day they meet but when their paths cross again, there's a spark between them. Sophie has already had her marriage end in divorce after she catches her then-husband with another woman in their home, and Max simply doesn't believe in committed relationships, not when he's seen first-hand the kind of devastating damage trusting someone with your heart can bring. Will Sophie learn to trust another man with the playboy reputation and can Max finally deal with his loss?

This was a pretty good start to a series that looks like it's going to be all about love and family. The relationship between Sophie and Max never feels forced and we get to see them learning to trust each other and take risks in pursuing something more with one another. We get to meet the Harringtons and the Claytons, as well as Max's family, and everyone seems to be interesting and I'm sure we'll see them again as the series progresses. There were moments, however, when a character is introduced simply for the sake of them being made known to the reader but not really having any actual significance to the story. Then there's me feeling as if I was being told a story rather than being allowed to experience the story as it was happening. I was reminded, more than once, of how it was to be a child having a story read to you. I wanted more meaningful interaction and moments. The story and characters were good, but I needed more overall. I'm giving A Wedding at Meadows Shore 3.5 stars and will await the second book's release. ♥
