Review: Hudson by Laurelin Paige (Fixed #4)

Companion novels to popular bestsellers aren't anything new, especially when they're the same story told from the point-of view of the male main character, since more often than not, a story is told from the female main character's POV if it isn't a third-person narrative or from dual viewpoints. That feeling of familiarity but with a new flavor of sorts has had me enjoying quite a few of these companion novels, but Laurelin Paige doesn't take the idea a notch further with Hudson, the fourth novel in her Fixed series. Nope, she took the idea and ran with it, scoring one hell of a touchdown. Hudson Pierce was always an enigmatic character in the original books that were part of the trilogy, but we get to know him so much better here. This is his story and he tells it in a way that only the Hudson Pierce can, and what a story it is.

Hudson Pierce is the man every woman fantasizes of being with and the man every other man can only dream of becoming. He doesn't go out of his way to look for anything to add to his life, not counting his business and financial portfolios. He can have any woman he wants and the same goes for his business dealings for Pierce Industries. Love is a non-entity, never having truly experienced it, whether in a romantic or familial sense. He thinks love and romance are things that can be controlled, the outcome predictable and easily manipulated. Then he comes across Alayna Winters and a game that he has every intention of winning begins as long as he's able to keep all the elements in check. The one variable that he can't seem to get a hold on is Alayna and his feelings for her. Will the game end with more than one loser?

With this book, Hudson has established himself as one of the top three alpha billionaires I've come across. His story has more than enough differences from the countless others that have lines bookstores and bookshelves everywhere. Complicated doesn't even begin to describe the man, but there's something about him and his story that makes you want to comfort him. This isn't merely a retelling of a story from an alternate point-of-view. If you've never read any of the three books prior to this one, you can still safely go into Hudson because the events encompassed in books one to three and everything before and in between are shared by the man himself. His relationships with people, Alayna included, are filled with complexities, but that's how it is with Hudson. Make sure you meet the man behind this fab five-star read. ♥
